Ruth was born March 8, 1923 in Clyde, Texas to Cefus Zebedee Caswell and Ester Cason Caswell. The family moved to Concho County when she was 2 years old. There she grew up and graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1941. On February 14, 1942 she married her high school sweetheart, Carroll Wilson Woodland. They were married 63 years at the time of his death in 2005.
Ruth graduated from San Angelo Beauty College. She worked many years as a seamstress for Alva Lee Webb. Later she worked for RG Barry Corp. until her retirement.
Ruth and Carroll enjoyed traveling in their RV after retirement. Ruth was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her sisters, nieces, daughter and dolls for many years. Her favorite thing to do was to tat and crochet. Many of her loved ones received gifts from Ruth’s beautiful works.
Ruth was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo, and served her Sunday school class as the Attendance Clerk.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll Woodland, her brothers C.Z. Caswell, Jr. and William Caswell; and her sisters Maxine Winters, Gena V. Caswell, June Thorp and Nancy Caswell.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and husband Clinton White of Big Lake, TX., her brother-in-law, Don Woodland of Baton Rouge, LA.; and her sister-in-law, Tommye Sprotte of Leander, TX.; seven nieces and five nephews.
Her family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their quality care. A very special thank you goes to the entire staff of Reagan County Care Center for their loving and compassionate care of Ruth during her 34 months stay.
