Evelyn Marie Riddle passed away into the hands of her eternal father on April 29th 2012. Evie was born on May 7th 1923 in Danbury Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Richard and Margret Riddle, sister of Paul Riddle. Aunt of Michael Clay Smith, great aunt of Preston and Phillip J. Smith.
Before WWII the family moved to Sioux Saint Marie, Michigan. She frequently spoke of the fond memories she had enjoying the beauties of Lake Superior and crossing over into Canada with her mother to explore and shop. After WWII Richard Riddle retired from the US Army and moved his family to San Antonio, Texas.
Richard and Margret bought a house on West Hildebrand on the outskirts of the big city. After Graduating Harlem Dale High school she went to work for First American Title Company. She worked her way up the ladder in a man’s world. Style and charisma always radiated from her.
Her brother Paul and Nell Riddle were married and had a child in 1954, Michael Clay Riddle Smith. Paul passed away six short years after his birth. After the death of her father and brother she stayed faithfully by her mother’s side, taking care of her until she passed.
As the concrete jungle grew around the house where there once was only pasture and farm land, she built an oasis in her yard blocking off the world around her. She would work all day moving rocks and pavers, building elevated garden beds, and watering her treasured plants with the company of her beloved dog, Puppy. She also had her stray cats, the good the bad and the ugly! In the summer her yard looked like a scene from a fairy tale, overflowing with plants and animals.
Evie loved jewelry. She collected every unique piece she found to display her personality. Evie was the only person that could have a piece of jewelry on every finger and still want more. She could walk into a jewelry show and have a crowd around her in a matter of minutes.
Jarrott Lynn Smith was her dearest friend and shopping sidekick. When Evie became too weak to keep up with her house, Jarrott was always there to help. Jarrott and Evie passed within days of each other and will continue to enjoy each other’s company in paradise.
Evelyn Marie Riddle was a special person. She had a huge heart for animals and only gave them the best. She loved her friends, and family. Aunt Evie we will all miss you.
The graveside service will be 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio, TX., with Rev. Bill Shockley officiating.
