A memorial service celebrating his life will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Skip Hill officiating.
Don was born on February 19, 1949 in Tyler, Texas to Ira George and Pauline McCoy Myers. He graduated high school in El Paso and then was drafted into the military. He proudly served in the Army during Vietnam, achieved the rank of Sergeant, and then served in the Army Reserves, for a total of 25 years. He was the manager of the Auto Hobby at Goodfellow Air Force Base for 27 years, where he retired with the hopes of traveling the United States and seeing all of its beauty. He married Shirley Ann Anderson on April 28, 2012.
Don was an avid hunter and he loved the outdoors. He never met a stranger, was bigger than life and ten feet tall and bullet proof. Don had a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, so there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Dusek Myers, who died in 2009. He is also preceded by his father Ira George Myers and step-father Harold Woodhouse. He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Michelle Allen and her husband Delbert; step-daughters Michelle Darragh, Sandy Bailey and husband Trent; step-son Chris Darragh and wife Calista; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew; mother Pauline Woodhouse; sister Betty Ann McCann; brother in-law Henry Dusek and wife Wilda; and sister in-law Helen Whitman.
