Mom, I am so grateful and so lucky to have had a mother like you; a mother who was so loving, so silly, and so compassionate. Your love helped guide me, your humor kept me smiling, and your compassion helped me see why it’s important to help those in need. I can’t thank you enough for always being there for me, for all the life lessons you helped teach me, and for your love and guidance that I know I will feel the rest of my life. 

Although it is terrible to lose you at such an early age, I am relieved you’re no longer in pain. You didn’t deserve all you had to endure in your last months and days, but you took it in stride and left this world with dignity and grace.

I will always have these memories, like how much you loved to play Uno with me, and how much you liked to watch Star Trek while I brushed and braided your hair. Or that vacation we went on and had a blast, you waiting patiently while I tried over and over again to ride that board down those sand dunes encouraging me all the way. I loved that you made Christmas so fun with all the hiding of present with clues to the next one, and how you loved the white elephant joke gifts more than anything. You made life so much fun and left us all with so many great memories, I couldn’t ever list them all. 

-Patience you had in abundance, and kindness filled your heart. Your love, generosity, and compassion were felt in your every word and touch. Everyone that knew you will remember this for the rest of their days, and the fondness they have for you they will carry along the way.-

I met Della in the Covenant Sunday School class at SVUMC in 2015. We instantly connected. We shared some of the same victories and struggles. Della talked me out of quitting the job I now have had for over 14 years. She taught me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. She taught me to hold my tongue when I wanted to tell someone at work what “I really thought about them” Ha ha!
Della was one of the strongest Christian women I have ever known. 

I had the privilege to meet Kristi and Margaret this year. Della was in the best hands during her last months on earth. Della raised Kristi to be an amazing strong woman! Kristi took incredible care of Della and it is so obvious how much she loves her. Margaret was a great comfort and so compassionate to Della.

Della, I will miss our talks and your great advice. I know that you will be waiting for me at the golden gates of heaven when God calls me home.

Gosh, there are so many memories. One of my favorites was when you would let me go down to the creek behind our apartment, and fish for crawdads. You would give me an old butter bowl to put them in,  and a piece of bologna to put on the end of my string. I would bring them back to the apartment with me, and you would give me a piece of bread to feed them. I remember one day I was lazy, and put the whole piece of bread in the bowl, and I suffocated the crawdads. I was crying when I found them, and you asked me what I learned.  You didn’t scold me, or even get upset with me, but instead used it as an opportunity to teach me something.  

Since that day, you have taught me so many lessons.  Even as you were sick, I was learning new things from you. You were the only parent I had for the majority of my life, and I am so grateful I had someone so strong to guide me.  I am even more grateful that SJ had such a wonderful Debba. She loves you so much, but she has so many amazing memories of you. You loved her unconditionally, and told her to never change who she was, and she will carry that with her. 

I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life, but I am so thankful you are no longer in pain.  I went half mad seeing you hurt everyday. Thank you for the songs you left us with. We have videos and sound clips so we can listen to them over and over again.  

Damn, Mom, I can’t believe that’s it. I can’t believe that I will never see you again, that I can’t call you for advice anymore, or that we will never go to Sonic or Rosa’s again.  You were still so young. There is a hole in my heart from the piece that you took with you. 

If you see Memaw or Papa, or Uncle Chuck, please tell them that they are missed dearly as well down here. I hope you and Memaw are catching up, and having the best time. If I can’t have you here, then I really hope that she has you there.

Our sincere condolences Kristi, Jeremy, Margaret and family. Della was a hoot. A true and stern friend. I had the privilege of working with her and calling her my friend. Enjoyed our KFC luncheons.

Della was one of the first people I met when I moved from the West Texas Disaster Recovery Center to the HHSC Oakes Street office.  We worked there together for about 5 years but remained in contact.  When I made my morning rounds to ensure there were no tech issues, she was always a ray of sunshine.  She was also among the wisest Christians I've ever met.  She helped me spiritually when I was going through some of the darkest times of my life.  I love Della to pieces and am so glad she is pain-free!!  She was so good to so many, and she will be missed.  I will miss her funny posts and messages, but I know we will meet again.

My deepest condolences to my lovely friend Della’s family. I worked many years for the State of Texas with Della. It was such a joy to see her and joke and laugh with her everyday. She had all the answers or knew who to contact. Over the years we both made moves and changes that prevented us from seeing or having contact with each other, but she is always in my heart. Hearing her name always puts a smile on my face. God is smiling right now.

I worked with Della many years with the state of Texas. She was always on top of her job.. If you had a question.. Della knew the answer..I nicknamed her “Della Do Right” She was a true professional and friend.. RIP “Della Do Right”!
You will be missed💜

John and I loved sitting with Della in church at Sierra Vista for many years.  Before church would start she was moving around the sanctuary visiting with everyone she knew, making them feel loved. I  loved being in the Covenant Sunday School class with her and our class loved her. She always made me laugh and feel loved. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with her family.
