Daniel "Danny" Torres Muñoz, age 69, passed away on June 11, 2023, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX, after a courageous battle with a chronic illness. He was born on June 13, 1953, in his beloved hometown of San Angelo, TX, to Encarnacion "Chon" Olvera and Micaela "Kela" Torres Muñoz.
Danny attended San Angelo Central High School, where he shared his musical talents as a trumpet player for the Bobcat Band. He graduated as a proud member of the Class of 1972. Throughout his life, Danny resided in Dallas, Garland, Waco, and eventually returned to his roots in San Angelo.
Known for his strong work ethic, Danny dedicated himself to providing for his family. He spent several years in furniture restoration, specializing in antiques. His exceptional skills breathed new life into cherished pieces of furniture. In his later years, he worked as a Team Leader for Environmental Services at Shannon Clinic, where he was known for his reliability and dedication. With unwavering commitment, he diligently served in this role until his retirement in December of 2018.
Danny possessed a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. His quick-witted humor could brighten anyone's day and bring a smile to their face. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished barbecues, relaxing with a cold beer, and reminiscing about the past. Tinkering around his house and raising German Shepherds brought him great happiness. He found solace in attending Sunday morning mass and was an ardent supporter of his beloved Dallas Cowboys, with a soft spot for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Additionally, he helped his father with yardwork and getting him to his doctor’s appointments, and lovingly tended to his mother's gravesite, ensuring that it was always adorned with green grass and fresh flowers.
Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Micaela "Kela" Torres Muñoz, and his brother, Antonio "Toñito" Muñoz; his grandson, Raul Julian Ramos; his wife, Abigail, and their daughter, Lilith Bleu; and his great-grandson, Nathaniel Muñoz.
Danny leaves behind a legacy of love and beautiful memories. He is survived by his loving companion, Maria Gomez, of San Angelo, TX; his son, Daniel Muñoz Jr., of Lubbock, TX; his daughters, Rachel Michelle Hernandez and son-in-law, Rolando Hernandez, of Waco, TX; Adele Cecilia Muñoz, of Waco, TX; Lisa Muñoz Thompson, of Lubbock, TX; Alexsandra Muñoz, of Waco, TX, and godson, Brandon Sanchez, of San Angelo, TX. He also leaves behind eighteen cherished grandchildren and seventeen adored great-grandchildren. Danny is also survived by his father, Chon Olvera Muñoz, of San Angelo, TX; his sisters, Celia and brother-in-law Leandro Valles, and Dora Ann Muñoz, of San Angelo, TX; his brothers, Rudolph "Rudy" Angel and sister-in-law, Minerva Muñoz, of San Angelo, TX; and Jose "Joey" Angel Muñoz and brother-in-law, Darin Harvey, of San Antonio, TX.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard Ave., in San Angelo, on Friday, June 16th, and Saturday, June 17th. A rosary service will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18th, at 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial, officiated by Pastor Father Joey Faylona, will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 W. Avenue N, on Monday, June 19th, at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Danny will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be his grandson, Daniel Muñoz; nephews, Albert Valles, Robert Valles, Rudy Muñoz Jr., and Christopher Muñoz; and son-in-law, Rolando Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will include his dear friends, Hector Rios and Eloy Garcia.
