He passed away February 12, at his home. He was born January 18th, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of Paul G. Villaret Jr and Louise Ellen Colegate Villaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Louise Villaret and his brother Paul G. Villaret III. Survivors include one sister Catherine E. Spinks and brother-in-law Thomas P. Spinks. Nephews, Colegate V. Spinks of San Angelo and Scott T. Spinks and wife Lynda of Midland, Texas, Paul G. Villaret IV and wife Kathy of Jonestown, TX, Richard Villaret of Tennyson, Tx, nieces Carole Viera of San Antonio and husband Alex, Amanda Starck and husband John of Midland, Tx. Five great-nephews and three great nieces.
Colegate was a highly decorated Marine Officer during World War II where he earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart when injured during the battle of Okinawa. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Texas and an M.A. degree from The Columbia University in New York. He worked for United Fruit Company in Golfito, Costa Rica and was a banker in Los Angeles for many years. He returned to Texas in 1969 to pursue a teaching career where he taught English at San Angelo Central High School for over 20 years before retiring. After retirement, he traveled twice to England to study at Oxford University. He was active in the Retired Teachers Association and other civic causes. He traveled extensively after retirement, returning to China where he had served after the battle of Okinawa.
At the decedent’s request, there is to be no visitation or memorial services. He will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered.
Arrangements are being handled by Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo, Texas.
