He spent his last days surrounded by family and loved ones before he peacefully stepped to the other side.
He was born to Royal and Thelma (Jorgensen) Sims on March 26, 1929 in Salt Lake City Utah. He had 2 brothers and one sister.
He grew up in the valley and graduated from South High. He was called to serve an LDS mission in Norway and did so honorably serving 2 years. Upon returning he attended the University of Utah for 2 years. While attending the “U” he married Bette Lou Pace. He was later drafted to the Army and served in the Korean War. He and Bette were stationed in Germany. During his service he served as the Assistant to the Chaplin.
He and Bette raised 3 children, Steven, Shauna and Rebecca. They later divorced.
He had a love for acting and theatre and performed at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. Other interests he enjoyed later in life included church history studies and genealogy.
Bob was a Business Owner/Inventor/Manufacturer. He worked in the family business, Southeast Sand and Gravel and Ready Mix Concrete Companies. In the mid 50’s, he with his father and brothers designed and built the first front-discharge, rear-engine cement trucks you still see on Americas roads today.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many different capacities. He served as Bishop of the Holladay South Stake 18th ward. It was a great love of his and he was deeply devoted to the work.
In the spring of 2004 He met Gayle Kinghorn. They married on October 4th 2004 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they served two missions for the church. They served for 5 years at the LDS Hospital and a second mission lasting 5 years working with Records for the church.
They loved travel and went many places with friends and family. Norway, Hawaii, The Panama Canal, and the Oregon Coast were some, their favorite being Jerusalem. He and Gayle were often heard saying, where ever they were, their favorite place was together.
He and Gayle led a busy life together with, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Never wanting to miss out on anything, they burned the road up from one end of the valley to the other attending birthday parties, dance recitals, sporting events and such and filled their dinner table with friends and family often.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Royal and Thelma, sister Laraine Upwall, and step-daughter Karie Burkhardt.
He is survived by his beloved wife Gayle, son Steven (Cathi), daughter Shauna Sims, daughter Rebecca (Brian) Dunn, step-son Craig (Liz) Kinghorn, son-in-law Kent Burkhardt, step-daughter Kim (Roger) Le Prey; brother, Rowell (Carolyn) Sims, brother David (Bjorg) Sims; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren.
He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, loved by many…now and forever, never to be forgotten.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27th 2018 at 11:00 am at the Seventeenth Ward Building, 142 W 200 N SLC. Family will greet family and friends from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Burial following at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary 3401 Highland Dr. SLC, UT 84106
