Dick was born in Urbana, Illinois on January 28, 1928. He spent the first years of his life on a farm during the Great Depression. He liked to say that all they had were chickens but that was more than most. He kept the gift of appreciating what he had throughout his life. In 1937 he moved with his mother Florence and step-dad Hank Inskeep to Salt Lake City. Hank and Florence raised him in Salt Lake City where he graduated from South High in 1946. Growing up he liked to pal around with his best friend Bill Eck who had a younger sister, Norma. Norma and Dick soon fell in love and were married in Salt Lake City in 1949. Together they raised their sons Larry and Richie at various locations in the United States and Europe where Dick’s career as an executive with Chevron Oil took them. They had an incredible marriage of 63 years and enjoyed many adventures together. He was a great husband and father. Dick excelled as an athlete and was very proud of being the third baseman for the 1946 State Champion South High Cubs. He was a man with great empathy and compassion for others . He shared his love freely and valued nothing more than honesty and integrity. In the last years of his life he had some health challenges which he handled with a great outlook and determination. The nurse said he took lemons and made lemonade. The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffry Twitchell, Dr. Greg Goodman and Rita, Angel and Sonnie with Good Shephard Hospice among others. Graveside services will be held at 12pm on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Salt Lake Rescue Mission.
