Boyd Ned Simper - a loving husband, caring father, jokester, sports fan, friend to all, and mentor to youth - passed away early morning on December 28, 2021, in Taylorsville, Utah. He was born on July 2, 1945 to Glen Kenneth Simper and Carma Jane Nelson Simper in Brigham City, Utah. His family soon moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he grew up. Boyd went on a mission to Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was a devoted member his whole life, serving in many callings, including as a counselor in two bishoprics. Shortly after returning from his mission, Boyd married the love of his life Linda June Jenkins in September 1967 and they made their home in Taylorsville, Utah. He served in the Army Reserve for six years as a cook. Boyd graduated from Weber State College in business management in 1972 and worked for Granger Hunter Improvement district until he retired. Additionally, he was Treasurer for North Jordan Irrigation for 30 plus years, and ran his own accounting business for more than 50 years.
Boyd and Linda had two children, Ned and Heidi, who he adored, supported endlessly, and was their biggest fan. Boyd would have liked to have 10 children and instead devoted his time to the youth of the community, enriching those lives around him. He was heavily involved in scouting, helping over 100 scouts earn their eagles during his 50 plus years being involved. He loved animals and was involved in 4-H livestock for over 50 years and owned a small family farm.
Boyd was the life of the party and a jokester in all situations. To say Boyd was outgoing and an extrovert would be an understatement. He was known for striking up friendly conversations with strangers with hilarious outcomes. Many people thought of Boyd as a second father. He had the biggest heart and was always supportive of his loved ones, showing up at important events. He was a huge sports fan and his favorite team was BYU. He enjoyed BYU football season tickets with his best friend Dick for many years. In his later years Boyd loved to feed and watch the birds from his back porch. He was always up for an adventure, he loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. We can learn a lot from his life, and his passing leaves a large hole in our hearts. He left this world a better place than he found it. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.
Boyd is survived by his wife Linda, his son Ned (Jodie), daughter Heidi, and grandchildren Jared and Natalie. His brothers Gary (Joanne), Dale (Joan), Brent, and Larry Simper. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Carma, his in-laws Kenneth and Muriel Jenkins, brother in-law Tom Jenkins, sister in-law Phyllis Simper, sister Sharon, grandson Jason, and several loved nieces and nephews.
