Ada Mae Stein passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at her Salt Lake City home. She moved to Salt Lake City in 2004 after living for over 50 years in Teaneck, New Jersey. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on April 15, 1914 to Ada Mae and Samuel Joseph Cahn. She graduated from Brooklyn College and worked at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City as a laboratory technician. She met and married Fred Stein in New York City, where their four children were born. They were happily married for over 50 years; he preceded her in death. She is survived by her children - Sam Stein (Astri,) George Stein (Susan,) Fred Stein (Sue,) and Ada Mae Crouse (Irvin) – as well as eight grandchildren (Jamie, Jennifer, Sarah, Ada Laura, Jannon, Julia, Leah, and Carlos) and three great-grandchildren (Amelia, William, and Eric.) She was actively involved in many organizations and causes, including the Settlement Houses helping World War II refugees, the Civil Rights Movement, and the League of Women Voters. She was a leader in her local synagogue, Temple Emeth in Teaneck, New Jersey and was President of the Bergen Country National Council of Jewish Women. In her brief 100 years, Ada Mae (Granny) pursued her passions of family, which included all who knew her, history and art, which took her to the far corners of the world, and charities, as expressions of her abounding love. Services will be held Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at Evans and Early Funeral Home (located at 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT) followed immediately by Internment at B’nai Israel Cemetery (1021 East 4th Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT.)
