Mishell Josef Stucki, 78, of Salisbury, Maryland, passed away, with his wife by his side, on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Logan, Utah, he was the son of the late Alvin Joseph Stucki and Barbara Taylor Stucki.
Mishell graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was part of the research group that designed and developed the LINC, the first minicomputer and a forerunner of the personal computer. There, he met his wife, Loretta Herzins Stucki, who was also part of the MIT group. They were married for 53 years. The research group subsequently relocated to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where Mishell earned his graduate degree in electrical engineering and where he continued to work for a number of years. He was later employed by the McDonnell Douglas Corporation in the field of computer systems.
Upon retiring and relocating to Salisbury, Maryland, Mishell and Loretta became avid ballroom dancers, and were founding and board members of several local ballroom dance clubs. Mishell studied ballroom dancing with some seriousness. His other interests included the study of linguistics and world languages; and he was extremely well-read on virtually every topic. Mishell enjoyed and appreciated the many friendships he made during his years in Salisbury. He was loved and he will be missed.
