Noel was born on June 23, 1929, in Clarita, Oklahoma to Marion and Nova (Slape) Ravan. After his graduation from high school, Noel attended Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. At the conclusion of his first year at Murray State, Noel moved to Sutherlin, Oregon. While living in Sutherlin, Noel became a Christian and accepted a call into the ministry. It was at this time that he met Edna Emma Jean Matlock, who would become his sweetheart and partner of nearly 72 years. They were married on Christmas Day, 1951.
Prior to his ordination with the Assemblies of God, Noel attended Glad Tidings Bible Institute in San Francisco, and Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz. During Noel’s more than 50 years of full-time ministry, he and his wife served congregations in Oregon, California, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado. In addition to serving local parishioners, Noel also served in several leadership roles within the Assemblies of God denomination. Noel was respected and loved by his parishioners and colleagues. Throughout his long career, Noel was a mentor to scores of younger pastors. He was known for his kindness, loyalty, humor, and unflagging optimism.
In addition to his wife, Emma Jean, Noel is survived by three children and their spouses: Wanda (Bob) Harmison, Carol (Ron) Stenson, and Kip (Teri) Ravan. Another son, Lloyd Ravan, preceded him in death. Noel is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Noel will be held at 2:00 on Wednesday, November 29th, at Relevant Life Church, 1090 Fairview Avenue SE, Salem, Oregon. A reception will take place at the church immediately following the service. Friends and family are invited to attend.
