Marcella Lucille Stauder was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Alvin and Cecilia Stauder on Feb. 20, 1931. Her four siblings include brothers, Jim and Ray, and sisters, Bernice and Ruth. Growing up, she spoke fondly of the garden in the backyard and of always having a bushel of apples in the cellar. Marce Lu graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School and went on to work at the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.
Marce met William Hollenback at the Rollerdrome, where they were roller dancing regulars. They married and began their 54 years of life together. Marce's family included eight children: Michael (husband Paul), Terry (wife Dorrie), Dale (wife Karin), Debra (partner Leslie), Alan (wife Philamer), Lisa Worobec (husband Tom), Julie DeShon (partner Frances) and Keith (partner Jay); seven grandchildren: Kris, Steven, Jessie Swain, Scott and Craig DeShon, Jacob and Zachary; and three great grandchildren: Charlotte, Ramona and Elijah.
Marce was gifted at parenting not only her own children but any others lucky enough to fall into her orbit. The 'Kinmore House' was known as a safe place in the neighborhood. There was always room for one more at the dinner table. To her, a child who was hard to love was the child who needed love the most.
A lifelong traveler, Marce planned a two-week camping trip every summer for the family of 10, with the occasional addition of a neighbor or two. After his retirement, Bill and Marce belonged to a group of square dancing RV'ers who wound their way throughout the mainland United States, up to Alaska and also toured around New Zealand and Australia. When time to settle down, they chose Alva, Florida, where they resided for 20 years.
Always up for an adventure, Marce continued to travel with her children to Europe and beyond to Nepal, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Turkey. In 2014, she moved to Corvallis, where she continued to hone her impressive seamstressing skills. She produced quilts, slippers, towels and tea cozies, supplying family and friends with all things fabric.
When asked, Marce would tell you that the best years of her life were those spent raising her children. Known for her accepting, glass half-full nature, she made friends easily and smiled readily. Marce lived her life in accordance with her unshakable faith. She died on Dec. 23, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family.
