Kathryn Taylor

Kathryn was born Jan 5 1936 to Fay and Velma Hulit. She had an older brother Vernon and later a younger brother George. The farm's name was Morningdew Dairy where her father and Uncle's worked together to raise, breed, show and produce milk for the community. Her favorite part of the farm was the barn kitten's the calf's and of course the chickens

She graduated from Hillsboro High in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart Leonard Thompson soon after. They adopted twins, a boy and a girl, Deb and Dan and first lived on the farm with Fay and Velma.

In 1970 she married her 2nd husband Bob Taylor, had their daughter Bryanna and they settled in Keizer Oregon. Kay made sure they bought a house with enough land so she could continue to garden and grow her own flowers and vegetables. Many years later she would show her flowers and vegetables in the Marion County fair.

Kay loved to paint, she took lessons from some of the greats and wanted to share it with others so she started a weekly painting class in her garage. The garage eventually turned into her "studio' where it was packed floor to ceiling with material and quilts were in high production. She showed her quilts, also, at Marion County fair and took home many ribbons.

She loved to camp and fish and instilled the love of the outdoors to all of her children. She also loved to take cruises and her favorite place to go was Alaska and made at least 5 trips there by ship.

She became very involved with rodeo queens, sewing outfits for many of them and was an officer for the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant for many years. She jumped at any chance she had to be a judge in the Portland rose festival parade. She had come to be known as "the white glove lady" as she would don a fresh pair of white gloves to check each horse and saddle for dirt. She loved that title.

In her retirement she continued to quilt, garden and grow flowers and she enjoyed the development of pogo games and Facebook.

She was a 100% salt of the earth woman of God. His light shined through her on so many occasions, and she lived an amazing life of faith and lead by example. She left us peacefully but you can bet Bob had the choir and the band at full volume and the party was in full swing when she went home.

A celebration of Kay will be held at Keizer Christian Church 3/19/22 at 1:30pm, with a Tea Party to follow.
