After meeting at a dance, their romance gave them 66 loving years together, enjoying life in Oregon: North Bend, Lakeside, Merrill, Eugene & Salem.
Edwin was born in Southgate, CA moved to Lakeside, OR as a boy; living on a dairy farm up Tenmile Lake. A graduate of North Bend HS & Oregon Technical Institute (OTI aka:OIT), pursuing a career as a Firefighter/Diesel Mechanic, with the North Bend FD, transferring to and retiring from the OR State Fire Marshal's office, as a instructor and arson investigator. He was a US Navy veteran (Korea) & Reservist; also, a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Freemasons, VFW, American Legion & Elks. A lifelong tinkerer, he enjoyed: electronics & engines: motorcycles & hydroplanes, ham radios, model trains, fishing, camping and spending time with his family & extended fire families: Elfbrandt, Lewis, Daughtery, Centers, Smith, et al.
Betty was born in North Bend, OR. Grew up as a young beach girl, in the Coos Bay & Empire areas, moving to Merrill as a teen. She graduated from Merrill HS and worked in her family’s grocery before meeting Edwin, relocating back to North Bend starting and their new life. After raising three children and getting them off to school, Betty also returned to school, graduating from Southwestern Oregon Comm College (SWOCC) pursuing a career in Finance; working in credit unions and later for Lane County, then retiring there. Betty loved the beach, baking, knitting, painting & quilting but mostly, spending time with her family and friends.
They are survived by their children: Mary & Steve Wallace, (Matthew, Benjamin, Lyndsey) Shelton, WA; Ed & Kathy (Southers) Harris, (Travis, Nicole) Salem, OR; Paul & Carolyn (Prozialeck) Harris, (Janice, Alicia, Ashley, Jessica) Salem, OR; Betty's sister: Peggy (Carter) & Fred Kowal, Albany, OR; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews and special family friends: Tami Waterworth & BettyAnn Bolin.
They were preceded in death by parents: Howard & Mary (Thomson-Pugh) Harris; William "Bill" Churchill & Marguerite "June" (Bellamy) Churchill-Carter; one grandchild, Alicia Harris and Betty's two brothers: William Churchill & Timothy Churchill.
