David Nels Spalding was born Nov. 4, 1929 in Salem, Oregon to Joseph and Alma Spalding, the last of five siblings. After graduating from North Salem High School and attending some college, David was stationed at the Presidio Army Base in San Francisco from 1951 to 53. He was a detective sergeant for the City of Montclair, Ca. for 25 years. He then worked for the Oregon State Hospital for 15 years, and Ferrellgas for 13 years.
On Aug. 27, 1966, he married Venita Standley in Montclair, Ca. Westgate Assembly of God was their church family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Venita; sons Matt, David, Richard and Edward; daughter Diane; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister Louisa Suggs; brother Harold Spalding; sister-in-law Barbara (Albert) Garcia; brother-in-law Larry (Sherline) Standley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tues., Aug. 9 at 11 am at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home.
