Emergency Medicine physician, husband, father, brother, “Ronpa,” friend, veteran, teacher, sailor, woodworker, guitarist, negroni-mixer. Dr. Ron Freid of Bridgton, Maine passed away on August 30th, 2024 at the age of 57 in the comfort of loved ones. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, he was the fourth child of Wilbert and Joan Freid.
He played football and basketball at Swampscott High where some may recall the “Freido chant” that took place on Friday nights at the Swampscott High basketball games. His love for football continued on the field at Bates College. From there, he earned his degree in osteopathic medicine from the University of New England College of Medicine.
Ron completed his medical residency in Emergency Medicine at Fort Hood, Texas and went on to serve his country as a captain in the US Army. With over 30 years in the medical field, Ron served as Chief of Emergency Medicine at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts where he spent most of his career. As medical director for surrounding communities, Dr. Freid loved to teach and mentored many medical professionals throughout the years.
Ron knew how to command a room, disarmed people with his charm, and was generous to his core. He held so much sacred, especially family and home. Some of our favorite memories of him are when he was playing a guitar, including the one he built himself, sailing on the lake or tootling in the convertible.
Ron is survived by his wife Renée; daughters Emily, Sara, and Christina; sons Calvin and Josh; brothers David and Richard; and many beloved grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in Ron’s memory be donated here: https://gofund.me/d4b0d7d7
