Elfman, Bette (Kaufman) of Swampscott entered into rest on May 5th, 2021 at age 83 of natural causes. Bette was the beloved wife of the late David E. Elfman, who predeceased her by forty years. She was a devoted mother of Merrick “Rick” (Allison) of Chicago and Reeven (Lisa Drew) of Portland, Maine and the cherished Baubi of several grandchildren.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Bette leaves her sister Doris Kaufman of Revere, sister Cecile Rothaus (Al) of Boca Raton, Florida and sister-in-law May Kaufman of Swampscott. Pre-deceasing her were her sister Jeanne Zucker and brother James Kaufman. She also leaves many adored nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Bette was raised in Revere, and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Northeastern University and a Master’s from Salem State University. She was a Bridge Life Master, member of Mensa, avid scrabble player and had a photographic memory which she used much to the chagrin of her family members during weekly card games.
Due to the regulations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, a private graveside service was held. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bette Elfman’s memory to the Jewish United Fund, JUF.org/donate or to AIPAC.org.
