Walter Bruce Blattenberger, age 79, of Richmond Heights, Missouri, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. Bruce was born September 12, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Raymond Walter and Jeanne Blattenberger (nee Vander Klipp). He is the beloved husband of 49 years to Anita E. Blattenberger (nee Friedrich); loving father of Beth (Steve) Vanden Hoek, Erika (Jason) Holroyd and Catherine (David) O'Dell, cherished grandfather of Jack, Amanda and Kathryn Vanden Hoek, David, Andrew and Benjamin O'Dell; dear brother of Barbara (Blattenberger) Kerf. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Bruce had a great love for his family as well as for science, astronomy, lighthouses, classical music, and the national parks. He was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church for much of his life until he was received into the Catholic Church in April of 2015 at St. Francis Xavier College Church. He held a Masters of Information Management from Washington University in St. Louis and worked in the information technology sector for various industries throughout his career. He taught evening classes at Washington University and was a volunteer with Junior Achievement. Bruce was active in various church ministry programs as well as the Christian Business Men’s Connection. He was an avid runner and ran in several marathons in addition to hundreds of 5K and 10K runs over the years.
Visitation for Bruce will be held at St. Francis Xavier College Church, 3628 Lindell Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63108 on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 9:00 AM with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
