Mary Genevieve Hughes

Mary was born on April 24, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri. She resided in Clayton with her parents Edna and James Gleason and younger siblings, Robert and Diane. Mary graduated from St. Louis Academy where she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She married the love of her life, Patrick Hughes, in February, 1958 at Church of the Annunziata. Mary and Pat were proud parents of four beautiful daughters Vicki Hughes, Joan (Richard) Spradling, Stacy Hughes and Trish (Michael) Sharkey. She retired from St. John's Mercy Hospital after over 30+ years and then volunteered there for many more years later. She was an active member and loyal patron of the American Legion Post #397 and Elks Lodge #9. Mary did not know a stranger and was generous, caring, and full of spunk. She opened her heart and home to the world and we are all better to have known her period.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughters Stacy and Joan. Mary's vivacious personality and memory are carried on by her siblings, Bob (Carrie) Gleason, Diane (Bernie) Gruszka; daughters Vicki and Trish; sons in law Richard and Mike; grandchildren Patrick (Laura) Hughes, Justin (Amie) Richter, Dawn (Matt) Lovelace, Brittany (Matt) LaRose, and Chad (Sabrina) Sharkey; great-grand children, nieces and nephews, cousins, and too many incredible and supportive friends to name.

People like Mary come around once in a lifetime and we will miss her forever.

A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, July 1, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kriegshauser West Mortuary, 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, Missouri 63132. A mass of Christian burial will occur Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM at The Church of the Annunziata, 9305 Clayton Rd., St. Louis, MO. A burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
