REFLECTIONS

Lorrie Ann Miller was born July 19, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lewis and Julia Stewart. She was the youngest of three children. She received her formal education in the St. Louis Public Schools. She graduated from McKinley High School and completed 2 years at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. Lorrie was involved in many different organizations.

Lorrie was the proud mother of two beautiful children, Candace Brown and Julian Johnson. She devoted her life to being the best mother she could be to her children. She taught them the importance of a good education, to fear God, and to take pride in who they were, and in everything they did. Lorrie was a woman of great pride. She would often say, “If you’re not going to do it right, then take my name off of it.” Lorrie supported her children in every decision they made. Even with declining health, Lorrie, with God’s grace, was able to support and attend every milestone in her children’s lives. Lorrie was the grandmother of one very special grandson, Dereald Brown II, aka D.J., and three beautiful granddaughters, Alora Brown, Gabrielle Brown and Mya Brown.

Lorrie began her career with AT&T at Southwestern Bell Telecom in 1984. She worked 18 years with Telecom, holding multiple positions from Telemarking Rep to being promoted as Supervisor. She especially loved being an RMATS technician. The friends she made grew into one “Telecom Family” which held a special place in her heart for over 25 years. In 2002, she transferred to ASI where new friendships were established as she continued to serve the customers of AT&T. Lorrie loved her job. In 2012, she was diagnosed with a rare illness and her health began to fail. After 30 years of dedicated service, Lorrie retired from AT&T in October of 2013.

Lorrie continued working when she could. She was a strong advocate and volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She was heavily involved with the Communication Workers of America as a retiree. She loved to do volunteer work. Lorrie had many hobbies. She loved to shop and all that knew her would agree that Lorrie was always stylish from head to toe. That didn’t change, even when she was ill. She was a Diva. Lorrie also loved to travel. She visited many states and several countries. Her favorite place to vacation was Jamaica.

Lorrie had strong faith and developed her Christian experience at an early age under the leadership of the late Bishop Dotson Brown at the Church of Jesus Christ. She later became a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C.V. Smith. She recently chose Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Michael Jones as her place of worship.

After a very long and courageous fight, Lorrie went to rest on October 7, 2018. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, daughter Candace Brown (Dereald Brown), son Julian Johnson, grandson Dereald Brown II, three granddaughters Alora Brown, Gabrielle Brown, and Mya Brown, two sisters Louise Carter (Samuel Carter) and Brenda Allen, one aunt Odelia Holliway, God-son Xazier Burse, two nephews Anthony Allen and Frederick Hicks, four nieces Monica Borde, Denise Hicks, Julie Allen, Sametra Seay (Darius Seay), a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.

A BEAUTIFUL LIFE WELL LIVED!

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 10am, at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Youth Worship Center 5544 Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, Saint Louis Missouri 63112.
