Barbara was born December 17, 1935 in New Castle, PA, to Caroline (Hink) and John Mollick. After graduating from New Castle High School in 1953, she moved to Pittsburg, PA, to attend stenography school. Always looking for an opportunity to travel, Barbara moved to Washington, DC after completing her degree to seek a job at the State Department because she knew many of those jobs involved travel. Ever a perfectionist with regards to writing, dictation, and procedure, she was immediately hired at the Pentagon to work for several high-ranking military officials. Although Barbara was disappointed to discover that as an 18-year-old she did not qualify for a travel job, the stars aligned--it was there she met the love of her life, David Norman Clasby, whom she married in 1956. Following their wedding, the couple drove to California, settling in the Los Angeles area, where they began married life. As they started their family, Barbara thoroughly immersed herself in being a mother (and later, a grandmother) and was always selfless, patient and kind.
After 14 years in California, Barbara, Dave and their family moved to St Louis. Soon enough Barbara jumped back into the workforce, and started a job at Hazelwood City Hall, where, for 25 years, she was a valued, well-respected employee who was heavily relied upon to proofread and edit city documents. As grandchildren arrived, she made it a point to spend special one-on-one time with each of them. While juggling work and family, Barbara continued to enjoy traveling with Dave to see new places and visit out-of-state family. As she did for her children, Barbara, in her soft-spoken way, encouraged her grandchildren to appreciate the simple wonders of the world.
After retirement, Barbara reveled in traveling more frequently to "see the world" with Dave. She also thoroughly enjoyed cruising the aisles of Marshalls (without Dave). As her health declined over the last decade, her husband Dave remained lovingly by her side, and when she could no longer travel, he sat and reminisced with her, hand in hand, about their wonderful life together. We are forever grateful to their son Dave and his wife Meg for opening their home to care for Barbara these past two years, especially Meg, who lovingly cared for her full time.
Barbara is survived by Dave, her devoted husband of over 65 years; children: Laura, Dave (Meg), and Carol Clasby (Mark Ebling); grandchildren: Jack and Matthew Clasby, Cady (Dan Clark), Dj, Tyler, (Jill) Cory (Lisa) and Connor Clasby, Amanda, Max and Lindy Ebling; great step-granddaughter Chole Clark, and great grandson Teddy Clasby; brother John Mollick (Pat), brother Dave Mollick (Pat) who predeceased her, and sister Marge (Dave) St Laurent; cousins, and many other extended family members.
A mass to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 25 at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic Church at 1210 Paddock Drive Florissant, Missouri. Following the mass, there will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Barb's well-lived life at Dave and Meg's, 14 Hazelnut Court, Florissant. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Barbara's memory to the Lewey Body Association.
