Sharon Gail Benton was the oldest of two children to the late Eldridge and Alice Lawrence. She worked for Timberlake Home health Care where she retired. Growing up she loved horses which eventually led to her having her own She graduated in 1956 from CK McClatchy high School. After high school she married Dick Mortensen whom she had her daughter Carrie. After her divorce from Dick she met the love of her life Ed Benton who she had son Michael. Even after their marriage of many years, they stayed very close. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years and got to enjoy her children. She started work at Lawrence's department store which her father owned. Later in life she went to work for Timberlake medical supplies for many years who she made some great friends with. After retirement they used to meet for lunches and have a good time talking about their lives and old times. She had school friends who she stayed in contact with. Linda and Sharon used to enjoy going to the ocean in Fort Bragg together. When Linda passed that just devastated Sharon. She also had her best friend Marion who she enjoyed going to the movies with and lunches and just hanging out and talking. She also had Nancy from school who she enjoyed being with also. Her cousin Barbara and her were also very close. I would say they were more like sisters.
Sharon has suffered from cancer on and off for over 15 years. While she was in the hospital, on September 14th 2020 She told her family that she wanted to go home to the place she loved the most. Thanks to hospice they arranged it that same day. Her son Michael has been by her side taking her to doctor's appointments chemo and going to her house and watching movies with. Alison her granddaughter has also been by her side since the start of all this. When Sharon's daughter Carrie passed away Alison has been living with Grandma and helping her. When Covid 19 struck Alison got to work from home. Besides working from home everyday she got to help her Grandma. She was so strong until the end. When we held her hand and talked to her she would have a big smile on her face.
She is survived by son Michael (Melissa), her two granddaughters Alison and Jasmine who she was very proud of for their accomplishments on going to college and working hard to strive in this world. She is also survived by her brother Dave (Patty), nephews David, Todd (Amanda), Brian (Tabetha) great nephews, Aden, Trevin, Dylan and Brayden.
Sharon you were loved by many and you will be deeply missed loved and never forgotten from everyone who was in your life. Loved and Never Forgotten.
