ERICKSON, Roy Donald Roy Donald Erickson (Don to his family and friends and Toots to his sisters), born on June 7, 1927, in Aberdeen, SD, passed away on December 16, 2014, in Sacramento, CA. He moved to California as a small child. He joined the Merchant Marine at age 17 and the U.S. Army at age 18. Don served in 1944-45 during World War II and over the years enjoyed sharing many stories of his service experience. He married his beloved wife, Dorothy, on June 20, 1948, in Sacramento. Don was a member of both Scottish Rite and Ben Ali Shrine. He was a natural salesman who worked most of his career managing the shoe departments for Joseph Magnin and I. Magnin stores in Sacramento. Don and Dorothy loved to travel with family and friends including favorite trips to Europe, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and Bora Bora. Don was an avid golfer; after retirement, he spent many hours playing golf with his buddies and serving as a marshal at Mather Golf Course. When it comes to loyalty, there was no more faithful fan of the SF 49ers, Giants, and the Sacramento Kings; through thick and thin, he cheered them on. Don and Dorothy loved to entertain, and Don was always the life of the party. He could tell a joke like no other and made sure everyone had a grand time. Don is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, his children, Gary (Sue) Erickson and Sue (Greg) Lindfeldt; two grandsons; one granddaughter and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Annie Erickson, four siblings, and one grandson. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Harry A.
