November 16, 2017, Rose De Herrera 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family following a long battle with cancer. Rose’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving children Elmer (Deceased), Charles (Nancy), Liz (Deceased), Walter, Manuel, Wilbert, Frank, Christopher, & Brenda Valdez (Richard). Rose was also a devoted grandmother to her 17 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, & 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Rose was born on April 15, 1930 to Jose Dolores & Juanita Valdez in Dixon, NM., and married the love of her life, Augustin DeHerrera in 1946 in Dixon, NM. They were painfully separated in 1994 with his passing, now after 23 years, she has joyfully returned to him in heaven.
She was very proud of her family and taking care of them was the joy of her life. The family enjoyed Camping, Fishing and Boating, enjoying years at Buck’s Lake, Dillon’s Beach & the Sacramento River. As if raising a large family wasn’t enough, her home (the Ranch) was open to all, anyone that would pop over always got the royal treatment and a full course meal – no matter what time of day it was, there was always food cooking. Rose always had a house full, babysitting several of her grandchildren throughout their school years. She loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
Rose was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor, and her famous cooking (Tortillas, New Mexico Chili; Tamales; Posole, and more). She never had a recipe, so knowing her secrets in the kitchen is an honor.
