Born on June 23, 1927 in Checotah, OK and raised in Kansas City, MO before settling in Sacramento at the age of sixteen. Bob peacefully passed on August 17, 2012 in Carmichael, CA. He is survived by his children: Catherine Murray (James), Valerie Whitaker, Robert Whitaker Jr. (Mimi); grandchildren: Julie Schaal, Candace Hansen (Scott), Lisa Sparks (Joseph), Andrea Barandas (Manuel), David Howard aka Grey Farran, and Luke Whitaker; great-grandchildren: Anna Schaal, Ryan Hansen and Ashley Rose Hansen. Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life of more than 50 years, Rose Mary (Colangelo) Whitaker. Bob was the Director of Data Processing for the SJUSD for twenty years before retiring. During his career he was recognized for writing many computer programs, which were utilized at SJUSD as well as in School Districts in other states. Bob's interest in computers never ceased and up until the end he proudly created his own greeting cards. Bob communicated with family and friends, sending jokes back and forth via the internet and Facebook or printing them out to bring and share with his buddies at lunch. Bob also proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His hobbies included playing pool, gardening, golfing & wood working. He was quick-witted, and always had a joke to tell. He will be greatly missed by his children, grand and great-grandchildren and his many friends. Friends and family are invited to attend Memorial Services Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Inurnment, St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends are invited to return to Nicoletti Funeral Home for a short reception.
