Robert (Bob) Forester Brown, Sr. was born on July 22, 1921 in Sacramento, CA to James and Grace (Loman) Brown. He passed away on February 7, 2016 at the age of 94. Bob is survived by his four sons, Rob (Mary) of Napa, CA, Steve (Wendy) of Capistrano Beach, CA, David (Kathy) of Tahoe City, CA, Garrett (Sharon) of Canmore, Alberta, and sister Marion Brown of Sacramento, CA. He was very proud of his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bob was pre-deceased by his lovely wife Norma in 2012 and by four of his siblings.
Bob’s strong sense of devotion to community and his country were reflected in his commitments to the military and various service groups. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps in 1941 and became an aircraft engineering officer stationed in Guam and the Philippines near the end of WWII before being discharged in 1946 at the rank of First Lieutenant. Bob chaired for such organizations as the California State Junior Chamber Speakers Contest, Sacramento Leadership Clinic, Infantile Paralysis Ball, Under-Privileged Children Summer Camp Program, and as Trustee of the Boy Scouts of America Council. He also was chairman of civic projects such as U.S.O. Entertainment, Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. In recognition of his volunteer service, Bob was voted Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Sacramento for community service and leadership and received the “Distinguished Service Award”.
Bob’s career as a salesman had humble beginnings, selling magazines door-to-door when he was eight years old. Following his discharge from the military, he began his career working for Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company in 1948. Through hard work and 52 years of dedicated service, he succeeded in his quest to become one of the company’s “Top 50” sales professionals and a distinguished member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
In addition to his strong devotion to family, community, and his professional career, Bob’s passion in life was as a performer and magician. He received his first magic set at Christmas at age 11 and from that moment on, the spell had been cast and magic remained a big part of his life. Bob’s stage show, “The Magic of Make Believe”, thrilled audiences around the world for nearly 30 years until his retirement from magic performance in 2000.
It brings his family great comfort to know that he is now free of his tired and broken body and resting in a better place. A memorial service and celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 21, at Harry A Nauman and Son funeral home, 4041 Freeport Blvd in Sacramento.
