Mrs Julie Wong was born on January 3, 1929, to Mr Yu Lai Yuk and Mrs Lee Sau Kuen in Toisan, China. She was the youngest of 4 siblings. She was fortunate enough to receive an education in her time. She studied hard and was industrious at home. She excelled in sewing and embroidery.
In 1950, she married Mr. Koon Ying Wong and had two daughters, Kay and Faye. They moved to Macau in 1958 and then later to Hong Kong, where she gave birth to her son Gilbert.
In 1966, with the help of her sister Marilyn Lee, they immigrated to the United States of America and settled in Sacramento. In 2000, she received Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended services at Laguna Chinese Baptist Church.
Julie loved her three children dearly, and they love her. They revered her as "the best mother in the world". She was smart and full of wisdom, loving, and hard working. She was also very friendly and kind, and because of that, she had a lot of friends.
Julie worked seasonally packing cherries and in the cannery, full time as a Sorter for Blue Diamond which she retired from in 1992.
In her spare time, Julie liked to travel and toured the world with her family and friends. She also liked to garden where she grew her favorite flowers, orchids and roses. Besides taking care of flowers in her garden, she also enjoyed caring for the hummingbirds that she fed and spoke to daily. The hummingbirds also spoke to her and would fly to her whenever she was outside. Julie was also a great cook and she loved to see her love ones eat and enjoy her food.
The love of her life though were her grandchildren. She took care of them with great love and tenderness and she had a dear and sweet relationship with them. The grandchildren were very precious to her and just mentioning their names would bring a huge grin to her face. She was very proud of them, and often bragged about them as they were the ultimate joy of her life.
After her husband passed away in 2010, Faye, her second daughter, moved in to care for her.
Shortly thereafter, in 2012, her beloved son Gil also passed away leaving her heartbroken.
Unfortunately, on June 13, Julie fell while feeding her hummingbirds. She later died peacefully in the hospital at 3:15 am on June 15 at the age of 90.
She is survived by Daughter Kay, husband Raymond and grandson Barney Chow.
