Peacefully left us on July 23, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born February 2, 1920 in Chicago, IL to Hewitt Ward, and Sylvia Irene Miller. Grace was preceded to Heaven by both parents, her sisters Charlotte Ray and Doris Stewart, her son-in-law George Amoako and her nephew William Stewart. She is survived by her sister Lois Abernethy, her children Hewitt Jackson (Linda) and Norrie Amoako, and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace retired in after 30 years of employment with the State of California; first at DMV and then The State Controller's Office where she supervised the data collection department for the Howard Hughs domicile court case. After retirement, Grace volunteered many hours at The Sacramento Food Closet, attended regular exercise classes, and read thousands of biographies. She loved life, had a delightful disposition and an always-positive attitude. She was a devoted parent, a loyal sister and friend, and a wise mentor. Her physical presence will always be missed but our memories of her will forever live on in our hearts. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 13th, at Harry A. Nauman and Sons, 4041 Freeport Blvd. Flowers from the service will be donated to a local charity. Donations may be made in Grace's memory to your favorite cause. Photo memorial at: www.harryanauman.com/ Click on Grace Davis.
