My heart sank when I heard of Fred's passing. I was one of his many students at Mt. St. Mary's College. What a joy it was to be in those classes. He was one of the very few teachers to whom I could listen all day. The class trip in 2004 to the American south to study Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement changed my life forever. Fred was filled with passion, compassion, and depth of feeling and intelligence. My sincerest condolences.

The news of Dr. Simonelli's death hit me like a brick.  I only just heard of his passing.  After I received my M.A. from Mount St. Mary's College, he signed his name Fred.  But to me he will always be Dr. Simonelli, a professor I respected.  He had a real talent to draw the best from his students.  What I learned in his classes will be with me forever.  For having known him, traveled the globe with him on school tours, and studied with him, he made my life richer.  He openly loved his children and grandchildren, and his relationship and the way he talked about Rachel was endearing.  My condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear about Dr. Simonelli--I was a student of his at Mt. St. Mary's and was blown away by both his teaching and by what a kind, sweet man he was. A true gentleman. I feel so grateful to have been just one of the many students with whom he shared his gift. I'll be thinking of his family.

I am so sorry for the loss of such an influence on my life. Dr. simonelli was my advisor who affirmed my love of history. I was so grateful for how much he challenged me every course. You will be remembered.

I was sorry to hear of Fred's passing.  He will be missed by many of us metalworkers in California, and I will personally miss listening to his speaking at events.  A friend to many.

My condolences to the entire Simonelli family.  Fred was quite simply the best teacher I ever had.   A man who breathed life into history and made it fun, even  for those unfortunate souls who claimed not to care. Fred believed in living history and led many fascinating excursions to the places where the real stuff went down.  I was lucky enough to travel with Fred to Hawaii and Mexico,  two very cherished memories.  Fred was a man of great intellect, wit and compassion.   He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

You will be missed. I will never forget the two trips I took with you to Ghana and El Salvador. Thank you professor. Rest in peace.

We were so sad to hear of the passing of our beloved cousin & nephew. We join the rest of the family in our sorrow but thank God for the beautiful memories and the gift of Fred. A wonderful, kind & amazing human being he touched so many lives in his time on earth. He was so proud of his children & grandchildren & when he met Francie more joy was added to his life. He was a genius but made you feel so comfortable when he spoke. We treasure the times with him & especially his last trip to Florida to see us after we lost 2 family members within 5 weeks. So thankful for a peaceful death our beloved Fred & we will all be together again in Heaven. May God grant us all the strength to move forward with grace & dignity as you always did no matter what life throws us along the way. We were so glad Francie added joy to your life.

I am so sorry for the lost, it is the Lord who know the reasons why he call Dr simonelli. when he came to Ghana with the group I was the tour guide, I love history but he made me to love history the more. May he rest in the bossom of the good Lord in peace.

What an incredible man, scholar and father. I think back on how fond I always was of him and how much I envied Laura the wonderful council and support he was always there to offer. Never a raised voice, always a calm demeanor. I am so saddened knowing how much he will be missed by everyone he touched.

You were more than just a professor at MSMC, but a mentor, advisor and Dad to Rachel and I. I am blessed to have been one of your students who sat in your classes and listened as you captivated the attention of a bunch of college students. Dr. Simonelli was my first professor when I began the graduate program in Humanities at Mount St. Mary's College.  He was a kind and inspirational educator.  My deepest condolences to his family and to all the students he inspired over the years.

Many decades ago, Fred wrote, "For I'll be there to wipe the tear and ease the endless pain. When all else passes from your life, my love will still remain." May those  who knew and loved him find comfort in his words. 
We spent 36 years years together, had our joys, achievements and challenges that we mostly met with humor. Our greatest blessing remains our three marvelous children and now 8 grandchildren. When we parted ways, we wanted peace for one another. And with all my heart, I wish you eternal peace.

The world is going to be a sadder place without Fred. So many people have benefitted from his intelligence, mentoring spirit and friendship. I know this firsthand. Fred was my professor on many occasions and my Graduate Thesis Advisor. His help, fairness and kindness I will always remember. And, of course, I'll never forget his sense of humor. His intelligence and wit made the laughable 10 X funnier. I've traveled with Fred on many occasions and those memories are some of my most cherished. 

So long my good friend-I'll see you on the other side and we'll discuss, once again, many interesting subjects. I'll have to wait until then to do such a thing, because there is nobody I know that can compare to you.
