Born November 19, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ben Mar passed away peacefully December 11, 2015 at the age of 92. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lai Kim; children, Robert (Susie), Albert (Nancy); grandchildren, Sarah (Anthony), Christopher, Gregory, Alyssa; great grandchild, Dylan; sister, Margie Quan, & many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by son, John; siblings, Joe Mar, May Louie, Tom Mar, and Mary Lum. Long-time resident of Sacramento, Ben was the prominent leader in starting the successful supermarket chain Jumbo Markets. His success helped provide many relatives, friends, and others with jobs that led to their financial stability. He was also involved in several real estate enterprise ventures. After retirement in 1986, he remained as a consultant and board member for these enterprises and enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. He had tremendous love for his family. He was a quiet, humble man whose legacy of generosity and work ethic was immeasurable, evidenced by the countless people and charities he helped. Ben will be dearly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be held at Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd. Private family interment will follow at East Lawn immediately after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in care of Ben's memory to the Asian Community Center, 7334 Park City Drive, Sacramento, CA 95831 or a charity of your choice.
