Arthur James Mack Battle

Arthur James Mack Battle passed away on April 26, 2018 at the age of 82 surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born on March 10, 1936 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to William G. Battle and Elizabeth B. Lewis. He was the 3rd of 10 children. Arthur is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Clinton, George Edward, and Ellis Bruce; sisters, Wanda Cindy and Denise Toni. He attended Roselle High School (Class of 1954) where he demonstrated his athletic ability and won numerous awards. After high school, Arthur joined the United States Marine Corps on July 22, 1954 where he proudly served his country for 26 years, and earned the honor of Sergeant Major. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, receiving many honors and medals, including a Purple Heart for his service. Arthur returned to civilian life, becoming a managing supervisor at the U.S. Postal Service West Sacramento location. He worked with the postal service for 21 years. Arthur is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Constance; children, Arthur Battle, II, Christopher Battle (Dinesha "Dee Dee"), Dr. Tamara Stone (James), and Arlene Battle-Jacobs (Danny); brothers, Ludwig Lewis and Jewett Lewis; sisters, Shari Glover and Wendy Gory (John); aunt, Thelma Southers; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 4 generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at the Nicoletti, Culjis, & Herberger Funeral Home at 5401 Folsom Blvd. on Thursday, May 10th from 4 pm- 8pm. Graveside service will be held at the National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on May 11th at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association at lung.org in honor of Arthur Battle.
