RUMFORD- Kevin L. Knox, fifty-three of Rumford, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and two children on May 21, 2024, after a strong courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Kevin was born on September 8, 1970, and graduated Class of '88 from Rumford High School. Kevin worked hard his entire life, haulin' loam and gravel, and he continued to schedule deliveries right up until the day before his passing, turning two loads into twelve. Kevin learned this skill from "Bumpa," the man he idolized and on April 24th, 1992 he purchased the family business, Knox Loam and Gravel, and carried on the legacy of his grandfather. Kevin was proud of the work he did and the material he hauled to municipalities and individuals.
On August 15, 1998, he married the love of his life, Rebecca Dyke of Canton. Together they raised two wonderful and amazing children, Tyler and Renee Knox, whom he loved more than life itself. Kevin enjoyed (many) long rides to look at equipment, wheeling and dealing, occasional trips to the casino, watching professional baseball, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and a good game of cornhole. His favorite pastimes were playing Pac Man or Dig Dug, surfing through marketplace for equipment, and discussing politics. Kevin wasn't a shy man and would strike up a conversation with anyone and without a doubt it was a conversation a stranger would never forget. Most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Kevin is preceded in death by his "Nana and Bumpa," and his mother Mary. Kevin will forever be haulin' in heaven and sadly missed by his loving wife, children, his many family members, and friends. Kevin's family would like to extend a special thank you to MHCC team members, Dr. Voisine, Dr. Tchekmedyian, Ashley Leamon, and his favorite medical assistant Alyssa for their care and compassion at every visit. Beyond his healthcare team, thank you for the endless support provided by family and friends especially his cousins Diane and Kimmie who were there at any time and in any way possible. To Ed Nemethy who was there whenever Kevin needed him and for delivering material over the last few months as his health declined. Lastly, a special thank you to his "brother" Lance White who has supported him and his family along the way.
Funeral services honoring Kevin’s life will be celebrated on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot Street Rumford, ME., 207-364-4366. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Dr. Tchekmedyian's Cancer Fellowship Program for prostate cancer research.
