He was the husband of Joanne Louise (Richards) Woods, married for 52 years since November 28, 1970.
Born on May 22, 1950 and raised in Rumford, Maine, Dave was the son of Joyce and Hubert Woods and attended Bisbee School and Stephens High School in Rumford, as #84 on the football team until he graduated in 1968. He enjoyed coaching basketball for many years and playing golf.
As he grew older, Dave proudly became sober for over 30 years and cherished spending time with his family skiing at Black Mountain, ice fishing, hunting, eating red hot dogs and drinking coffee and (most of all) ice cream. He was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and maybe most of all, “Papa”. His motto was to live hard, love fully, and don’t forget to let up.
Dave worked for many years as a skilled carpenter and built many houses in the area and was known for his expert finish work. During that time,
Dave and Joanne raised their 4 boys on Somerset Street in Rumford until they moved to Peru where Dave built their dream home. He went on to spend over 30 years as a supervisor for Lauren Engineers and Constructors until he recently ‘retired’.
Dave is survived by a large and very close family: his wife Joanne; his 4 sons Craig and wife Angela, Jamie and wife Melinda, Tadd and wife Jenn, and Dustin and companion Lori; 10 grandchildren Colten and wife Kaitlyn, Ethan, Brooklyn, Delaney, Kara, Morgan, Adam, Emily, Brianna, and Makenzie; 5 brothers Mike and wife Kathy, Jim and wife Edie, Tim and wife Ree, Mark and wife Renee, and Peter and wife Carey; 3 sisters-in-law Diane and husband Bob, Suzanne and husband Rollie, Louanne and husband Mike, and brother-in-law Michael; and tons of nieces and nephews and cousins.
There will be a celebration of life for Dave this Spring or Summer, to be held outside where he loved to be.
