William Raymond McGowan, age 77 died peacefully at home on November 21, 2020 after suffering serious health issues. He had the opportunity to share quality time the last couple of months with family and loved ones. Born in Pleasantville, New Jersey, Bill was the son of Joseph and Evelyn McGowan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife of 40 years Mary Jane McGowan.
He is survived by his companion Marie Breed, younger brother Joseph McGowan Jr. and by his daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa Brathall (Jeff) of Milton, Michelle Bowers (James) of Gainesville, Nicole Hylan of Sugar Hill. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Brittany Montgomery (Jake) and their daughter Sutton, Rachel Fackler (Whit), Marisa Brathall and her daughter Raegan, Kayla Fornek, Nicholas Fornek, Conor Regius, and Ava Hylan.
William R. McGowan (Bill) joined the Air Force in 1961 and served his time in France as a Navigational Systems Aircraft Engineer. Upon discharge from the Air Force he was recruited by Lockheed Martin where he began his career in the private sector. Bill spent the bulk of his career (22 years) at National Computer Systems, Inc. where he started as a Technical Engineer and worked his way into the C-Suite as the President of the Financial Systems Division. Eventually Bill retired from AccuTech Systems Corporation. He was highly respected in the Financial, Banking, and Trust Industries.
Bill lived a rich abundant life without regret and was the quintessential Patriarch instilling strong family ties that extended to many whom were longtime friends. His success in business provided he, his wife Mary, as well as his children, the opportunity to travel and explore the world over. The adventures and shared experiences enriched the life and bonds of his family. He was beloved and will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Due to Covid-19 the family has decided to have an intimate celebration of his life at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia where he will be put to rest with his late wife. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care and professionalism of the Southern Comfort Hospice and his caregivers.
