Richard Daniel Powers, 68, passed away on August 7, 2014. He was born on August 2, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois to Anna Uremovic Powers and Richard Loren Powers, both of whom have preceded him in death. He attended Lockport Township High School, where he was a member of the marching band, performing in the Music Man Musical, then graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors degree. Richard proudly served in the US Army, is a decorated Vietnam Veteran and a member of the American Legion. Upon his return, he moved to Atlanta, where he graduated from John Marshall School of Law and received his post graduate studies at Princeton University. He had an extensive career in the insurance industry, including past Vice President and Director of American International Groups and past Vice President of United Capitol Insurance as well as numerous political affiliations. Richard was an avid golfer and a member of Rivermont Golf Club, served as a marshal at numerous golf tournaments, was a member of the USGA and charter member of the TPG. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol T. Powers; sons, Brett Andrew (Jennifer) Powers of Atlanta, GA, Cory Steven (McCreary) Powers of Deerfield, Il and Michael (Melissa) Schulte of Atlanta, GA; 5 grandchildren; 1 aunt; numerous cousins and extended family members. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00am to 12:00pm with burial to follow at 2:30pm at Georgia National Cemetery.
