Mrs. Priscilla Leverett Dorvee, age 93, lately of Roswell, Georgia, and a long-time resident of South Glens Falls, New York passed away in her sleep on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Priscilla was born on January 31, 1928 in Surrey, Maine, a daughter of the late Herbert Lord and Alice Evelyn Lord.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in home economics, Priscilla served for several years as a Home Demonstration Agent traveling the roads of Washington County, NY. She then returned to college where she earned her Masters in Education from St. Rose University. Priscilla then began a long and successful thirty-year career as a schoolteacher in the Glens Falls City Schools.
She spent most of her career teaching the fifth graders of Sanford Street School. Depending upon the season, a visitor to her classroom might see a multiplication tables goalpost, a pond field with crayfish or a “store” where her pupils could redeem good work/good behavior coupons for school supplies, trinkets or, for those who saved, a pool party. She loved her students and was very pleased when one would come back to visit, which they often did.
Priscilla was recognized as a Teacher of the Year in Glens Falls and Teacher Magazine published several articles she wrote. She also was an exchange teacher to Tunisia and hosted several exchange teachers and students at her home over the years.
In retirement, Priscilla thoroughly enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Priscilla married the love of her life, Russell Dorvee in 1955, and the two spent many years sharing countless memories. Priscilla was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and was a loyal member of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church where she served in many roles, including as a Stephen Minister. All who knew and loved her will miss her.
Along with her parents, her husband, Russell Dorvee, preceded Priscilla in passing. Priscilla is survived by her son, Stephen Dorvee and daughter-in-law, Ida of Roswell, Georgia; two grandchildren, Lilla Dorvee and Russell Dorvee; siblings, H. Curtis Lord Jr. and Thelma Lord Dombkowski; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family and friends of Mrs. Priscilla Dorvee will be celebrating her life with a memorial service to be held in South Glens Falls at a later date.
The arrangements for Mrs. Priscilla Dorvee have been entrusted to the care of Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road Roswell, Georgia 30076.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to South Glens Falls United Methodist Church or the Children’s Development Academy in Roswell, GA.
