Joseph Michael “Mike” Woodliff, aged 71, passed away on August 4, 2024. He was born on June 3, 1953 to Guston Willett Woodliff and Virginia Taylor Woodliff in Alpharetta, Georgia. He attended Milton High School, where he was an accomplished athlete, studied at the University of Georgia and Southern Polytechnic, and spent his career as an engineer.
Most importantly, Mike was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his adventurous and hearty spirit, always exploring and enjoying the outdoors. An attentive father, his love for finding artifacts, fishing, birding, hiking, kayaking, and cycling was passed on to his children. He traveled widely, meeting and falling in love with his Italian wife of soon 48 years, Maria Rachele Caccia, on Paros, an island in Greece. He herded sheep in the Swiss Alps, dove Florida caves, camped everywhere from the Keys to the deserts in the Southwest and the national parks in the Northwest, and was once recruited to build a camp at Burning Man. In earlier, healthier years there was not a thing Mike could not do, build, or fix.
Mike loved his dogs dearly, including his late golden retriever Watson, who died in May.
Mike will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Maria Rachele Woodliff, son John Dylan Woodliff, daughter Jillian Woodliff Bailey, brother Mark Steve Woodliff, daughter-in-law Laura Jane Miller, son-in-law Thomas Matthew Bailey, and grandchildren Lucian Rhett Woodliff, Joseph Rush Woodliff, Hunter Victoria Bailey, Jude Ambrose Woodliff, and Vail Allison Bailey, and his many good friends and neighbors. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Taylor Keller, and his father, Guston Willett Woodliff.
A funeral service will be held on August 9, 2024 at Roswell Funeral Home at 10 am to celebrate Mike's life and honor his many contributions to our world.
Mike's departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org) in memory of Mike.
