Maureen Elizabeth (Wharton) Glaeser, of Cumming, GA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 15, 2023. She was born to Francis and Shirley Wharton on December 6, 1951 in Queens, NY. She grew up on Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Joseph Douglas Glaeser, Jr., who passed on July 10, 2018. She is survived by her son, Joey Glaeser; her mother, Shirley Wharton, and her siblings: Mark, Matthew, Michael, Melinda, and Madeline.
Maureen was the epitome of a caretaker, always going out of her way to be as supportive as she could for her family. She was her husband and son’s top supporter, loudest fan, and biggest advocate in all that they did. She worked for Nabisco, Millard-Wayne, and others before taking several years off to raise Joey. Upon returning to the workforce, she worked as a software developer for AT&T for nearly 25 years before retiring. Her hobbies were varied and included creative endeavors like music making (piano and guitar), soap making, and jewelry making. A lifelong learner, Maureen also enjoyed working on her French, studying natural history, and learning about wine—and enjoying plenty along the way, of course!
Maureen’s memorial service will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on Sunday, April 2 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Her and her husband Joseph’s remains will be inurned at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on August 29, their fifty-third wedding anniversary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute www.cancerresearch.org.
