Mrs. Marion Helen Gilbert, age 85, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2021. Marion was born on August 10, 1936 in New York, New York, a daughter to the late Dominick and Dora Castagna.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, she was married as a young lady to John Kenneth O’Brien and soon moved to New Jersey where they raised their four daughters. Marion worked diligently her entire life to provide for her family and take care of her four daughters in every way she could. She was a strong-willed, determined and very social individual. Her working career began at Macy’s New York, and after being a full time mother, she resumed working again as administrative assistant with a stock exchange company. She eventually transitioned to Lucent Technologies where she worked until her retirement. She was a fast learner and a hard worker and a fine role model for her family.
Ten years ago Marion made her way to Roswell, Georgia, to be close to her daughter, and happily met and married her husband of five years, James ‘Jim’ Gilbert. Marion was a very vibrant woman who loved to play the piano, shop, cook, entertain and travel. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was indescribable and she will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Along with her parents, she joins in death her former husband, Kenneth O’Brien, and a grandson, Robert Oxnard.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Gilbert; her four daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Ellington of Woodstock, Dr. Maureen (Alex) Moomjy of New York, Denise (Patrick) Dacey of New Jersey, and Linda Marie (Harry) Oxnard of Tennessee; her eight grandchildren, Garrett, Brice, Davis, Nicole, Nadine, Gregory, Philip, and Harry; her two great grandchildren, Lucy and Harry Jr; and several extended family members and friends.
