Mrs. Madge Kathleen Thayer

Kathleen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We celebrate her life as she went home to be with Jesus early Tuesday morninfg April 17, 2018.

She was a strong Christian who loved family, Bible study, music, entertaining, cooking, gardening, and sewing.

She married Jack C. Thayer Jr. in 1945. They attended LSU while Kathleen managed the raising of their three young children. They later had a fourth child and moved the family to Jackson, MS where Kathleen was a member of the Jackson Federation of Women’s Club.

The family relocated in 1971 to Atlanta, GA. Kathleen loved to volunteer and was a member of Sandy Springs Christian Church. She co-ran a hospital gift shop with long time friend, Norma Jean Hawkins. Kathleen participated in Walk to Emmaus and volunteered as a support person on many future walks. She also worked as volunteer host for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

After losing her husband Jack in 1996, she moved to Brooksville, FL, and resumed her volunteer activities. She was President of the Brooksville Regional Auxiliary Pink Lady Hospital Volunteers and was the leader of United Methodist Church of Brooksville Women’s Club. She also opened her home by hosting a foreign exchange student from Hong Kong.

In her final years she resided at Day Break Senior Living Village in Kennesaw, GA where she was well- known for her upbeat sense of humor, and was lovingly refereed to by staff and residents as, ”Giggles.”

Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Thayer Jr., her oldest son David Duncan Thayer, and her youngest daughter Mary Kaye Thayer. She is survived by her oldest daughter Reanell Thayer Passons and spouse, Gary Willard Passons, youngest son Jay Thayer and spouse, Carol Scott Thayer, along with 10 Grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren!

A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076 with a Graveside Service at 3:00 P.M. at Green Lawn Cemetery.
