Joan was born to the late Herbert A. Pigrom Sr and Essie Pigrom on June 4th, 1944. She grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and attended Jerusalem Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age. Joan graduated from J.S. Abrams High School in 1962 as class Valedictorian. She went on to further her education at Talladega College. Joan majored in Math and graduated with honors in 1966. She was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and her favorite color is red.
During her professional career, Joan worked as a computer programmer for IBM and later worked as an IT Group Manager for BellSouth. In 2006, Joan retired and moved to Georgia to be closer to her family.
Joan was a kind spirited person who loved spending time with family and friends. She was always the first to lend a helping hand and made a lasting impression on everyone who had the honor to know her.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael David Gordon and Michael’s father, William Murray Gordon III.
“Grandma Joan” will be lovingly remembered by her 3 beautiful grandchildren: Hollis, Grant, and Anna Gordon. Joan is survived by her brother, Herbert A. Pigrom Jr. (Lena); sister, Sandra Smith (Frederick) as well as her nephews, nieces, other family members, and special friends.
