Ms. Bailey was born, January 15, 1952, in Easley, South Carolina to Charlie and Margie Lesley. Iris was the youngest of 6 children. She was a devoted mother and a loving aunt and sister. She was a talented cook and at one time owned a catering business. She was a whiz with computers and enjoyed organizing. She loved to travel with her daughter and son-in-law. Walt Disney World was one of her favorite destinations.
Iris put herself through college by working at the Dan River Mills Factory. She graduated from Troy University with a degree in computer science. She started her career with the State of Alabama in the Highway Department. She retired from the Alabama Department of Archives and History in 2018.
Iris is survived by her daughter Brandy Elizabeth Gordon, her sisters Lula Simpson, Frances Nickols, and Linda Leverett, her son-in-law Kenneth Gordon, and her granddog Watson. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Base and her brother Charlie Wilson (C.W.) Lesley.
