Raised in Monroe and Columbia, LA., Ellen subsequently attended Business School in Mobile, AL. while also working as a shipyard secretary during the World War II years.
There she met her life’s love, Marion Eugene (Buddy) McCrary, who pre-deceased her in 2013 after 66 years of loving marriage. Ellen was also pre-deceased by beloved family members including precious granddaughter, Elisabeth Courtney LaFon; daughter-in-law, Jill Irvin McCrary, parents: William and Flossie Bonnett Clark, six brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her five children, Pennie McCrary LaFon (Tom), Charles Lawrence McCrary (Anne), James Richard McCrary, Julia McCrary Franzman (Rick), Mildred McCrary Savory (Brian), 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Many joyous times were spent in the company of all her family at holiday and special gatherings through the years including the annual family summer trip to Crescent Beach, FL. where ‘Nana’ was an active participant in both beach games and Bachelorette Watch parties with her ‘girls’.
At each career re-location move in their shared life, Ellen always connected first with the local United Methodist Church throwing herself into tireless and faithful volunteering. Their final stop in retirement was in Dadeville, AL., Lake Martin and the Red Ridge United Methodist Church which became their most beloved community and church connection. Their 27 years spent there included year-round visits from family and old friends and a network of new friendships gained that enhanced those many golden years.
Following Buddy’s passing, Ellen spent her subsequent years as a resident of Sandy Springs, Ga and Mt. Vernon Towers reconnecting with old friends and acquiring new ones, including as a member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church.
Her joyous spirit born of her faith in the Lord will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her on this earth but will pass her in peace by God’s grace through heaven’s gate.
A private service will be held for immediate family members at Roswell Funeral Home followed by interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, 6065 Roswell Rd. N.E., Suite 505, Atlanta, Ga. 30328.
