Donna was born on August 3rd, 1951 in Bayside, Queens New York, as the oldest child to Marie Helen and Donald Thomas Fortune. Donna is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard Don Holland and three children, Michael Eric, Christopher Don, and Jessica Marie; four grandchildren, Ronni LeeAnn, Willow Gail, Winnie Marie and Sophia West and her three siblings, Scott Fortune, Darlene Fortune and Melody Fortune.
Donna graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors degree in finance, a Masters degree in accounting and she soon earned her certification in public accounting. She was the first in her family to obtain a four year degree, which sparked inspiration and confidence, showing her siblings that with a willful spirit and determined mind… The possibilities really are endless.
Donna and Richard followed one another’s work and passions, which in doing so, were able to create a home for themselves and children in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Mesquite Texas, before putting down roots in Roswell Georgia, where they have resided for the last 23 years.
Donna loved to travel and she made time to ensure her family experienced togetherness. Her plans often included cross country trips with her kids, family cruises, Disney World adventures with her niece and nephew and girls trips to Italy. Her family was her greatest joy. There were many trips to Florida to nurture the family’s relationship and foster their love for one another. Donna was the embodiment of unconditional love and selflessness and those distinctive qualities are strongly woven and easily recognizable within her family.
She was a leader, without ever drawing attention to herself as such, for she would shine the spotlight on others rather than ever stepping into it herself. Donna was focused on taking care of others, while never expecting anything in return. Her humbleness and leadership were amazing qualities that made her the woman so many looked up to. She inspired those around her to follow their dreams and celebrated their every milestone.
Donna cherished the life of those around her in such a way, that bearing witness to the happiness of those she loved, brought her genuine joy. From watching her children grow up and navigate the world, achieve their dreams and find peace in life, to her brother and sisters following their passions, all accomplishments that she would bask in and genuinely celebrate for them.
Capturing her life and her accomplishments in just a few words is exceptionally difficult.
Donna was an anchor, shoulder and cheerleader for all. Her willfulness and strength will be missed, but her legacy will be honored by everyone that has loved her and by those she has ever cared for and loved.
A funeral service for Donna will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at10:00 AM at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114.
