Betty Ann Clanton, 69, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 19, 2014. She was born to Hubert Glover Parr and Sybil Azilee Parr on May 30, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1962 and attended college at Georgia State University. Betty was a wife, a mother and homemaker in the Atlanta area.
Throughout her life she battled with Rhematoid Arthritis, which to most, would keep them from living life to the fullest. But where most would see mountains to climb, she saw opportunity to rise. She found ways to overcome her own afflictions and make a beautiful world to all of those who knew her. Despite her ailments, she raised a son and instilled the dream to always reach for the stars. Her proudest moment was to wear his Navy Wings of Gold around her neck.
Betty retired to the Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after complications with her Arthritis, where she became an active member of the Roswell community. She served as the President of the Resident Council and helped to envision, design and manage a “country store” within the home that used it's proceeds to benefit the residents. She was publicly recognized for her dedicated service and tireless efforts in bringing Second Wind Dreams to those in need. Her selfless contribution to the Roswell Nursing home will always be remembered by those who lived and worked beside her.
Betty was well known in the historic district of Roswell, where she spent much of her time doing what she loved ~ shopping and socializing. Every merchant in the township knew 'Miss Betty” and welcomed her smile every day as she rode into town, dressed to the nines on her scooter. Her beautiful and inspirational spirit will be missed by all the townsmen who knew her.
Betty is survived by a son, Brant Clanton; two brothers, Larry and Joe Parr; a sister, Ruby Devine; Three generations of nieces and nephews; and very loving friends, Roy, Betty, Diane, Jennifer, Juanitta, among countless others. Despite facing incredible obstacles during her life, she always persevered and rose to the top of each mountain ~ and from there she saw the beauty in everyone.
In lieu of a service or flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation at the following website:www.arthritis.org. Please click on “donate”, then “Honor and Memorials”, then “Betty Clanton”.
