Barbara Pickens Wilson (Bob) was born on January 27, 1932 in Woodstock, Georgia to the late Wesley and Bertha (Green) Pickens. She was the second of seven. After fighting a long battle of illness, she departed this life on May 9, 2020 while residing at the Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
As a young child Barbara attended Woodstock Elementary School and dedicated her life to Christ by joining Bethel AME Church. Once she moved to Roswell she transferred her membership to Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She worked on several committees: Hospitality, Communion Board and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Barbara was married to the late Joseph Wilson, Although no children blessed this union they embraced their nieces and nephews as such. She loved her family. She was small in stature, but truly a giant in her devotion to helping family with anything they needed from nursing, to providing shelter, even giving financial support.
Barbara was a true renaissance woman with many jobs: private caretaker, a personal chef, and also great seamstress. Her longest job was with the Fulton County Board of Education, where she worked as a cook for 26 years. In her spare time she loved to garden and travel with her family. While at the nursing home she loved the social hour activities: Bingo, visiting churches, getting her nails painted and “snack time”.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Beckey (Jane) Pickens, Elizabeth Mapp, Alice Grant, and One Brother Charles (Lewis) Pickens.
She is survived by one sister Susie Pickens and two brothers John (Jack) Pickens (Patsy) and John Albert Foster (Martha) along with a host of relatives and friends.
