It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert L. Nixon on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in Clinton Township, MI. He was 96 years old and a resident of Harrison Twp, MI. Robert was born on April 30, 1927, in Dowelltown, Tennessee, to Haskel & Eliza (Franklin) Nixon. On January 19, 1957, he married Annie Lee (Bailey) Nixon in Angola Indiana .
Robert is survived by his daughters, Dayna (Dave) Koons and Doranne Nixon, as well as his grandchildren, David and Jennifer (Carson), and his great-grandchildren, Lily and Amelia. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Annie, his son Robert A. "Beaver" Nixon, and his parents.
Robert lived a full and adventurous life, serving in WWII Germany after enlisting in the Army as a young man. After being honorably discharged, Robert moved to Michigan for work, where he met Annie, his wife of 57 years. They settled in Roseville, Michigan, where they lived for over 50 years.
Robert was a devoted family man who, along with Annie, loved spending time with his grandchildren, Jenna and David. They would often go strawberry picking and take trips in their motorhome, earning them the nickname "Grandma and Papa Motor Home". When they were little, you could often hear Jenna and David singing, “Tall, Tall Trees” by Alan Jackson, along with choreographed hand movements that Robert and Annie had lovingly taught them.
Robert had a quick wit that was loved by all who knew him. His sense of humor was second to none, always known for his sometimes-saucy jokes and comical stories. His Southern charm was contagious. He would always greet you with a big smile and a "Hey buddy”!
Robert was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to country music. He played with a group of like-minded country musicians, who would hold weekly "jam sessions”. He also enjoyed many other hobbies, including archery, fishing, boating, camping, and working in their backyard garden. Robert took great pride in growing vegetables and loved sharing the bounty of his garden with his friends and family.
Robert will always be remembered as a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His love for life and infectious personality will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
