Elizabeth “Betty” Slinde peacefully passed away on February 9, 2021 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Gifford and Elizabeth. Betty began teaching at 18 years of age in a one-room rural school in Osage, Minnesota. She later moved back home to Roseville, Michigan where she taught for ten years and was an elementary and middle school principal for another 23 years. She was also a Macomb County Commissioner for Roseville and Eastpointe from 1979 to 2009, where she was proud to serve and support her community. She played an important role on various commission committees, the Mental Health Board and SEMCOG (the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments). She was also active in the Democratic Party at the local and state level. In retirement she resided at the Park Place senior living facility in Warren, where she happily organized guest speakers, games and other activities for her many friends there. Betty was devoted to her mother, who inspired her to a life of service to others, and they loved traveling.
