Doris was born in Central Lake, Michigan at home on June 11, 1921 to Welfred and Alice [Ballard] Darling. She married William Morrow in Muskogee, Oklahoma on June 11, 1945. She was employed by several companies over the years, ending her employment with 25 years at Macomb County Community College where she received an honorary degree as Keeper of the Records.
She attended Central Lake (MI) for grammar and high school, almost graduating as valedictorian of her class. She told the story that she purposely made some bad grades the last year of high school so she would not be valedictorian and have to make a speech in front of the whole class. She was very proud of the letters she earned for playing high school basketball. It was said she was the first girl in Central Lake to wear blue jeans.
She was a resident of Roseville, Michigan since 1960. She also was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Roseville, serving for many years as church secretary.
She was preceded in death by: her husband William Morrow on July 18, 1966, her parents Welfred and Alice Darling, her brother Paul Darling and sister in law Wanda Darling, her sister Ruth Martin and her husband Jack Martin, and Ruth’s twin sister Vera Darling who died at birth. She was also preceded in death by three nephews: Bill Darling, Doug Martin and Tom Martin. She is survived by two nephews, three nieces and many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
After four decades of being single she once again found companionship with Lloyd Burns until his death at age 98. They were both avid golfers and enjoyed each other’s company for several years.
Her family would like to acknowledge all nurses and care givers at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, particularly Elizabeth from Hospice of Michigan and Tara, weekend Cherry floor nurse at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for their care of our aunt and their many kind words and acts toward us during her last days, Al and Becky Molnar.
Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 18303 Common Street, Roseville MI 48066 on Wednesday May 16th. Visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. There will be no graveside service, per Doris’ request.
